If you are a person who has a home or a business, especially if those locations are out in a more rural area, you may find that little Knoxville critters are attempting to build a home in your home or around your business. While this may seem cute to many, no one really wants to have rats, raccoons, squirrels, or birds taking up residence where they reside. These Tennessee animals can carry diseases with them, and they generally can be quite messy, making it a need to get them away as quickly as possible.



The Tennessee opossum is another example of this. These are pretty ugly animals that can make your home or business an ugly place. They love to get into your garbage, can tear holes in your walls or attic, and the nests that they build can be pretty disgusting. They are truly an animal you do not want around if you can do anything to stop it.

There are many remedies that people try, including such things as predator urine. This can be highly effective, but it is most likely that no wants their home or business smelling like coyote or wolf urine. That is not the most appealing of smells to say the least. One of the other ideas is the use of mothballs or ammonia. What is proposed is that if you line the property line with ammonia or mothballs, including around your home as well, then this will deter the Tennessee animals from coming. It is true that these substances are very irritating to the Knoxville possum and that is why so many propose it as a good suggestion.

It may sound great, but this does not actually work at all. That is unless you are going to flood your home with these substances. They do not work enough to irritate the animals enough, unless they are put out in such large amounts that they really deter away the Knoxville animals. There are too many variables that need to be considered in using mothballs or ammonia. If it rains or there is a heavy wind it can blow or wash away the compounds and your solution is gone. These substances will also kill your grass, plants, and corrupt the ground as the compounds seep into them. This means that you won’t be growing anything there anytime soon or maybe, for even a really long time.

This is not worth it, especially considering that there are much better options to look into. It is understandable that you want to get rid of these Tennessee rodents, but you simply cannot do so using mothballs or ammonia. The consequences of this are too severe to try and so it makes sense to look at the other options.
